Timeline of the Steven Truscott Case
1959-
- 12 year old Lynne Harper goes missing.
- The girl is
searched for and is eventually found in a barn with evidence of being raped and
murdered.
*- Steven Trusscott is accused because he was the last person with
her. He admiited to the police that he was with her but they eventually split
ways.
the court didnt beileve him and even though he was young he was
senteced to death. He was to be hung.
The case only lasted 15 days.
1960
-There was a lot of controversy about the case and prime minster john definabke
sentenced Steven to life in prison.
and has been on death row for 4 months
1966
-Isabel leBourdais published a book about the case and raises questions about
what happened and the outcome. She promps the supreme court to take another
look at the case

1969
-After 10 years behind bars, he disappears and takes on a new life but is still haunted by his past
1997
-Steven Truscott agrees to take a DNA test but crucial evidence that may have helped him clear his name was destroyed
-Prominent attorney James Lockyer agrees to take on his case
2000
After almost 40 years, Steven Truscott finally comes out of hiding to try to clear his name. He does so by doing an interview with CBC.
2001
-
Lawyers for the Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted file an appeal to have Truscott’s case reopened.
2002
-Retired Fred Kaufman is given the case to review by the federal government
2004
-after two years his report is sent in to see if the evidence would have changed the trial back in 1959
2005
-the report is released to the public but there was not enough evidence to get Steven off the hook
2006
- after almost 4 decades and advancements in technology they dug up Lynne's body but unfortunately there was no usable evidence on her corpse and Steven has still not cleared his name
